Austin Influential Group will present The Opulence Ball: Harlem Heat, an extravaganza of movement, sound, and visual splendor in support of Austin Pets Alive on Friday, February 14th. Highlighting the Harlem Renaissance, with an enthusiastic nod to the Afro-Latin influences of Cuba, the night will be filled with movers and shakers of Austin who will set the mood to hot jazz, sultry voices, and intoxicating raucous dances.
The Harlem Renaissance was the development of the Harlem neighborhood in New York City as a black cultural mecca in the early 20th century and the subsequent social and artistic explosion that resulted. Lasting roughly from the 1910s through the mid-1930s, the period is considered a golden age in African American culture, manifesting in literature, music, stage performance, and art.
Taking center stage, Austin's cream of the crop of talented African-American singers and "dames de cacao," along with Latin fringed follies and steel magnolias will motivate and excite with features from the City of Lights to the Pearl of the Caribbean. Guests can enjoy the glitz and glam of the Jazz Age, reminiscent of the swanky Cotton Club, and dance the night away to Tiburon, an explosive eight-piece Latin orchestra.
