AIA Austin is pleased to present Design Talks with Sara Zewde this Thursday, February 13th!
Studio Zewde is a design firm practicing landscape architecture, urbanism, and public art. The studio is devoted to exploring the "aesthetics of being," and creating enduring places where people belong. Sara Zewde holds a Master's of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, a Master's of City Planning from MIT, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Statistics from Boston University.
Sara was named the 2014 National Olmsted Scholar by the Landscape Architecture Foundation, a 2016 Artist-in-Residence at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, and in 2018, was named to the National Trust for the Historic Preservation's inaugural "40 under 40: People Saving Places" list. Her work has been exhibited at the 2016 and 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, in the Brazilian and U.S. National Pavilions.
For this talk, Sara will explore how, in the context of rapid urban development, a changing climate, and clarified political tensions, the narratives embedded in ecologies of memory offer creative departures for landscape architecture today. Sara will discuss the recent design work of Studio Zewde in Philadelphia, Seattle, Houston, and Brazil.
Design Talks will be held at Austin Central Library. Advanced tickets are $15 for Associate Members and students, $30 for Architect and Allied Members, and $40 non-members. However, tickets purchased the doors are $40 for Architect and Allied Members and $20 for Associate Members and students. To register, please visit www.aiaaustin.org.
