Starring vaudeville sensation Bert Williams, these rare 1913 and 1916 silent films are believed to be among the earliest to feature African American actors. Part of the Ransom Center's "Vaudeville Film Series," the films are being screened alongside the current exhibition "Vaudeville!" which is on view through July 15.
Eric Colleary, the Ransom Center's Cline Curator of Theatre and Performing Arts, will introduce the films. "Lime Kiln Club Field Day" was preserved by The Museum of Modern Art with support from The Lillian Gish Trust for Film Preservation.
The combined runtime is 87 minutes. This event is free and open to the public. The line forms upon arrival of the first patron, and doors open 30 minutes in advance.
