A film with expressive images of nature, depicting life in America at the turn of the century. Told through the voice of a child, this is the story of Bill and Abby, lovers who travel to the Texas Panhandle to harvest crops for a wealthy farmer. Bill encourages Abby to claim the fortune of the dying farmer by tricking him into a false marriage. This is Terrence Malick’s second film, which took him three years to edit. Though not a commercial success, it did win an Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
